This volunteer on a forest farm opportunity offers the chance to experience sustainable rural living while becoming part of a nature-focused project in Portugal. The farm welcomes people who enjoy outdoor environments, learning new skills, and connecting with others through meaningful shared experiences.
The team enjoys introducing volunteers to their daily activities while also learning from their backgrounds and personal stories. Volunteers become involved in everyday life on the property, helping with ongoing projects while having the freedom to explore the peaceful surroundings. With plenty of natural space and a nearby town, the farm provides a balance between quiet countryside living and access to local amenities.
Volunteers are considered an important part of the community, and the project aims to create a welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels respected, included, and comfortable.
Tasks & Roles
Tasks change throughout the year depending on the season and the farm’s current priorities. Volunteers may help with gardening, maintaining outdoor areas, organising old agricultural items, painting buildings, improving the grounds, and supporting general maintenance work.
As a volunteer on a forest farm, participants can also learn about silviculture, forest care, and sustainable land management. The farm specialises in tree cultivation, including cork oak and pine trees, within one of the world’s largest cork oak regions. Volunteers can gain insight into responsible forestry practices and the importance of protecting natural ecosystems.
The farm follows environmentally responsible methods and holds Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable practices that support the environment, local communities, and long-term forest health.
Living & Getting There
Volunteers have their own accommodation with four bedrooms, including two private rooms, as well as a fully equipped kitchen, two bathrooms, a living area, and Wi-Fi. The space allows volunteers to enjoy both social interaction and personal time during their stay.
Meals are sometimes shared with the resident team, creating opportunities to connect and exchange stories. The hosts understand that some volunteers may be joining their first experience abroad, so they provide support and guidance to help everyone settle in comfortably.
The closest airport is Lisbon Airport. From Lisbon, volunteers can travel by bus to Coruche, with travel information provided before arrival. Collection from Coruche may also be possible depending on availability.
What else
This volunteer on a forest farm experience allows participants to enjoy a slower pace of life surrounded by nature. Free time can be spent swimming in the lakes or pool, relaxing outdoors, practising yoga, hiking through forest trails, or exploring the nearby countryside.
The local town of Coruche offers everything needed for daily life, including supermarkets, restaurants, healthcare services, banks, and shops. Its riverside location and historic areas make it an enjoyable place to visit. The nearby city of Santarém is around 30 minutes away and can be reached by bus.
The project values kindness, flexibility, and open communication. It welcomes volunteers who appreciate nature, sustainability, teamwork, and the opportunity to contribute to an environmentally conscious rural community.
