Volunteer on a Farm in Italy Near the Sea

Volunteer on a Community Farm (Italy)

Volunteer on a Farm in Italy and experience traditional rural life in a welcoming community surrounded by nature, animals and the beauty of southern Italy. Located at the foot of Pollino National Park, just 1.5 km from the sea and opposite the historic village of Belvedere Marittimo, this educational and social farm offers volunteers the chance to discover a simpler way of living based on respect, sharing and connection with the environment.

The Ark is a small rural community that believes a slower lifestyle away from the noise and pressure of city life can bring peace, balance and wellbeing. The farm grows its own crops, cares for a variety of animals living freely and works continuously to maintain this unique project. Volunteers become part of the community while gaining practical experience, learning about sustainable living and discovering traditional Italian culture.

Tasks & Roles

Volunteers support a wide range of activities depending on the season and the current needs of the farm. Tasks may include helping with crop cultivation, animal care, preparing traditional Italian meals, cleaning, maintenance work, supporting educational visits, assisting with childcare and helping welcome guests.

The experience is designed for people who enjoy nature, animals and community life. No specialist skills are required, as enthusiasm, reliability, good manners and a willingness to help are the most important qualities. Volunteers should be prepared to get involved, learn new skills and contribute to the daily life of the farm.

Those who choose to volunteer on a farm in Italy will also have the opportunity to learn about local cooking traditions by preparing and sharing meals with the community. Volunteers help for approximately six hours per day, six days a week, in exchange for accommodation and meals.

Living & Getting There

Volunteers stay in the main house where the community also lives. Accommodation options include private rooms and shared dormitories separated by gender, with shared bathrooms and showers available. Meals are prepared together and enjoyed as a group, creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Vegetarian volunteers are fully catered for.

During the summer, volunteers can relax by the swimming pool or enjoy the barbecue area in their free time. The peaceful surroundings provide the perfect setting to disconnect, enjoy nature and experience the rhythm of countryside life in Calabria.

The closest airport is Lamezia Terme International Airport (SUF), which is approximately 100 km away. A nearby train station provides another travel option, and detailed directions will be shared once a volunteer’s stay has been confirmed.

What else

The farm is located near Belvedere Marittimo, a picturesque coastal village in Calabria, southern Italy. The area combines stunning views of the Tyrrhenian Sea with a charming historic centre situated on a hillside overlooking the coastline.

This opportunity is ideal for travellers who want to volunteer on a farm in Italy while experiencing authentic local traditions, learning about sustainable farming and becoming part of a close-knit community. Volunteers can enjoy the natural beauty of Calabria, discover traditional Italian cuisine and make lasting memories in a peaceful rural setting.
